Unitarian sermons 1895 - 1900

For first time it has been possible to reconstruct the titles of most sermons delivered in the first Norwegian Unitarian Church - The Church of Brotherhood in Kristiania (now Oslo) - by Unitarian pastor Kristofer Janson between 1895 and 1900. This would be almost 400 sermons and it is impossible to list them all here in the blog. Those interested in the list (in Norwegian) may contact The Unitarian (e-post see left side bar).

Between the years 1895 and 1900 only nine sermons were delivered by others than Janson. Non of them by members of The Church of Brotherood.

The writer Ivar Sæter (left photo) talked about "The peace movement" (June 7 1896), "Individual Freedom" (April 23 1899), and "Our young men" (April 29 1900) where he compared Norwegian youth to the philosophy of Nietzsche. Sæter also delivered a speech October 16 1898 but it is still unknown what it was about.

March 27 1898 another pastor gave a sermon, O. E. Breda, but it is unknown what kind of pastor he was and what he talked about. It is interesting to see that on May 14 1899 Kristofer Janson delivered the sermon "Bruun contra Breda". Mr. Bruun was well known Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran. At the moment nothing much is know about pastor Breda. The question is what kind of pastor would accept an invitation to talk in a Unitarian church in Norway 1898?

Hans Tambs Lyche (for many years Unitarian pastor in the USA and married to Unitarian pastor Mary Rebecca Godden) was critical to The Church of Brotherhood and warned against Kristofer Janson's mixture of Unitarianism and Spiritism. Still he delivered one (and only one) speech June 21 1896 about "The Holy Scripture of History".

Richard Erichson talked about "The Christian teaching of redeem" (December 11 1898). His name does not sound Norwegian but on the other hand Norwegians that emigrated to America often anglicized their names.

On February 26 1899 R. Sørensen gave a protest speech for World Peace and November 12 same year Ivar Martinsen talked about The Lord's Prayer.
